11th season review & stats

Played 12 Won 9 Drawn 1 Lost 2

After the traumas and success of the club’s tour to New Zealand it wasn’t surprising that the new season took a while to get going. It eventually began in November, when on the eve of the Wales v New Zealand clash, the Warriors took on the Burry Port Classics. Although, as is almost traditional, the Warriors lost, it was a close game that they could have won. Further optimism was gained from the strong squad assembled and with a number of Warriors and ex Warriors on the Classics side it made for a very enjoyable game.
The 1st home game came against ‘Whales A’ and a good win was well deserved. The next two matches took place in the ever sunny but never warm Pontyberem. A creditable draw against the Club was recorded over the Christmas period and then Mynydd Cerrig veterans were edged out. This was excellent preparation for the season’s big event. The Saracens Brave Herts arrived as the first integrated side from England and the 1st time the Warriors had ever hosted a touring team. The Warriors secured the CMG cup and hopefully we have seen the birth of another Warriors tradition. The Saracens enjoyed their trip and are currently making waves in the english game. The Warriors followed this up by regaining the Challenge Shield for the 1st time in 5 attempts. It was done the hard way, away in Swansea and the headlines read world’s best as the Warriors laid claim to being the best Challenge rugby side. The fixtures against Penybanc and Cefneithin were predictably excellent with the Cefn club raising around £1000 on another legendary day (and night) out. The next fixture saw the Warriors return to Cardiff on international day. Although the match against Barry Barrians was narrowly lost the day was a resounding success. Another home match and another hard fought encounter, but against Scarletfever, the Warriors managed to come out on top. As well as raising the profile of the club considerably, it was perhaps the 1st time the opposition have been pleased with their performance despite losing. An excellent indicator of the respect the Club has gained. The final match before today was the run around in Betws prior to the Powergen Cup final, an enjoyable romp with the Warriors again victorious. Today’s final match sees the Warriors looking to complete an unbeaten season at home and to secure some very impressive statistics for the season.
