Teignmouth tour additional photos

Teigmouth tour 2000
The Warriors finally managed to get a tour sorted (mainly through Gary Shed) and played the 1st game of Challenge (intergrated) rugby in e**land in the process. The day of the england Wales match was chosen as although we weren't going anywhere near twickenham we would be in the same country and morally supporting the team. A leaving party was held on the Thursday night as a cheap means of exstending the tour and allowing those not going to share some of the experience. It also gave us a chance to introduce some of the rules as so Stephen Walley became 1st tour slave and Chris Bonar won 1st wear of the tour leader yellow jersey (supplied by Lee Rowlands). (see photo below)
1st job: meet in Stradey cafe for healthy athletes brekkie (Walley 2nd from left, Chris Bonar in yellow jersey on right)
Then onto the bus and meet the 'drive': Betws recruite Wayne Comley

Adrian Payne takes over the slave shirt (shouting in services) although it may have been because on the bus you had to shout to be heard over Jason Jenkins singing
Steve Walley relived of Slave shirt and Colin Talcon.

Once at Teignmouth (via the wrong way of a 1 way system and having held up the weekend traffic while we unpacked) we chucked our stuff in the hotel and then headed off to the rugby club to get our match out of the way (see match report for details)

It was no good the barmaid trying to hide from Walley

Walley gives up on the bar maid and goes for Mam instead much to Spencer's delight

Chris shows him how it's done

It was a quiet 1st night although a small hand picked group did a quick rec of local night spot Top Bananna. The same group were next morning also accussed of helping the squad wash in the middle of the night.

Saturday is match day
After Breakfast the Warriors held their 1st ever kangeroo Court with a suprising number of candidates for the dock. After Spencer and Walley had been reprimanded the court took to the streets for a spot of street theatre starring those (possibly) involved in the 'water boys' incident. Once up and dressed for rugby there was a small recce of the town which involved an Aussie bar and Irish bar Malloys where Adrian Payne almost started a riot with his 'vocal' support of the football.
Unfortunatley there is little photographic evidence of the Warriors decent on Teignmouth RFC. Despite the result of the international the Warriors managed to maintain their spirits. The Singing contiuned long after the match, culmiating in a huge 'Sunshine Mountain' led by Gary Shed. Other highlights included Chris Bonars 'Welsh ballard', Walley serenading the barmaid with 'Paper roses', Robbie Williams 'original' interptitation of Cwm Rhondda and cymrusising several locals with the Welsh flag and leek microphone.
The evenings entertainment consisted of taking over the Top Bananna Night Club where Adrian Payne had to borrow a bouncers shoes to conform with the dress code. Thankfully neither is there photographic evidence of the water boys swimming club as it would redemble an X rated version of casualty.

Mayor's Parlour (99-00)

As a result of inviting the Mayor to presentation night the Warriors were in turn invited to the Mayor's Parlour. The delegation very much enjoyed the posh surroundings, signing the book, srcumming down with the Mayor and the er...free beer.

The Warriors 2nd annual presentation evening was held in the Calsberg - Tetley Suite at Stradey Park. Guests included various dignitaries along with rugby players Garan Evans and Phil Bennett and international referee Robert G. Davies. All players (who had made 3 or more apperances) were given a medal. Opponent teams were given a pendant to mark the fixture and Leslie Dawe got a bunch of flowers for making the buffet.

Garan Evans (who had watched the match in 96/97) praised the improvments in playing standard whilst Phil Bennett narrowly lost a kicking contest with Dai Sprigs on miniture Stradey Posts - although, aptly, this could have been because it was officiated by Lewis Jones.

Lots of people played this year as the Warriors moved up from 7 to 12 fixtures. A very successful season ending with a big win against a Chris Karate lead White Lion XV. Asda were met for the 1st time with an eventful game at Peoples Park. The difference between the sides was the kicking of Dai Spriggs. Taking over from Roger Bowen he slotted 2 beauties whilst Roger broke his nose in a tackle.
